Rating: 4 stars

Fans of Beautiful Bastard will love this one. This book takes place a good chunk of time after Beautiful Bastard ended and it’s a short novella, about 132 pages. This book gives fans of Bennett and Chloe a peek into what happened once their relationship went public. Because Chloe and Bennett are so career driven, they rarely got to spend quality time with one another. Feeling frustrated because he wanted to be with his girl, Bennett puts the plan into action to take her away to a French Villa.

“I definitely found my equal, the woman who made my life a living hell and lived to antagonize me. A woman whose mouth I wanted to tape shut…every bit as much as I wanted to kiss it. My girlfriend, my former intern, Miss Chloe Mills. Beautiful Bitch.”

Like Beautiful Bastard, it was told in alternating POV, but this one had a lot of flashbacks. It made me smile to read about Chloe’s introduction to Bennett’s family as his girlfriend. It made me laugh at what happened when Bennett met Chloe’s father for the first time. I sighed in contentment to read about their every day life together, even when they need to use the “bat signal” to get one another’s attention.  Where Beautiful Bastard was full of sass and sex, this novella was sweet and made my heart warm.

“Somehow, Bennett had managed to work his way into every part of my life. He was still the same stubborn, driven man he’d always been, and I loved that he hadn’t changed who he was just because we were together. He treated me as an equal, and even though I knew he loved me more than anything, he never cut me any slack. For that I loved him even more.”

I don’t know if I’m correct, but I feel like I heard more of Bennett’s voice in this one, which I loved! I love being in that man’s head. We also got to “meet” Max, Bennett’s friend in New York and we learned that both Bennett and Chloe will be moving to New York to open a Ryan Media Group office there. This novella sets up Beautiful Stranger perfectly.

There has been some slight confusion over the reading order of the Beautiful Bastard series. In my opinion, I recommend reading this novella after Beautiful Bastard and before Beautiful Stranger. Even though it came out after Beautiful Stranger, this novella sheds light on what happened in between the end of Beautiful Bastard and beginning of Beautiful Stranger. Beautiful Stranger will pick up when Chloe and Bennett are already in New York.

If you loved Bennett Ryan and Beautiful Bastard, then you most definitely will want to read this novella. I love that even though Christina Lauren are writing about different characters, they always come back to Bennett and Chloe.
