She wears a thousand deadly identities. He sees through them all.

A master of disguise, Isabel Roma spends her life pretending to be other women. Normally, her emotions are reined in tight—but sexy mercenary Trevor Callaghan has a knack for getting under her skin. The elite operative’s quiet strength and raw magnetism affect her in ways she’s never felt before, a distraction that can quickly turn deadly in their dangerous line of work.

After putting his tragic past behind him, Trevor is ready to focus on his future—and he damn well intends for Isabel to be in it. When their entire operation is thrown into chaos, Trevor enlists Isabel’s talent for deception. And as they attempt to save their team in a world where the stakes are high and the danger is grave, Trevor must convince Isabel that the woman beneath all the disguises is the one worth having…

I’ve been waiting not-so-patiently since book one to get my hands on Isabel and Trevor’s story. I even thought of skipping ahead to theirs, but I’m glad I didn’t as their story is featured as a sub-plot in both books one and two to build up their story. And what a story it is! It’s almost instantly that we’re brought back into the action that the team is so used to (although not this kind, exactly), and we get right into the thick of the back-and-forth pull that Isabel and Trevor’s relationship is.

Isabel is a woman of many faces, quite literally. She can change everything about her and be completely unrecognizable at the drop of a hat. Not only is that her job, under Noelle’s guidance, but it helps to hide the real her. And what better way to run from yourself than by evolving into different identities. We see her struggle with both that need to be someone else, and the need to be close to Trevor. At the end of book two, she ran. Trevor has a way of getting under her disguises and making her want to be her. The real her. And like anyone trying to hide in plain sight, she’s scared. Isabel is a completely normal-appearing woman. She is incredibly multi-faceted, and you love her for it. Yes, she’s been through traumatizing things, but she doesn’t let it define her. She is still incredibly compassionate, and caring. She still has her heart after everything, but yet she’s incredibly ruthless when she needs to be in her job. A dichotomy of a woman if there ever was one.

Trevor has suffered the ultimate loss. We saw him in the first book be basically a shell of himself after he lost his wife. We saw how the mere presences of Isabel slowly pulled him out of the quicksand he was suffering under. And Trevor has finally pulled through to be a part of life, to have life back inside him. He wants nothing less than to have Isabel in his arms and his life, but she’s skittish to any sort of closeness. They make one step forward and two steps back, and in the middle of all of that, he has to run his team the best he can in the crazy circumstance they’re in now. I loved getting to see Trevor be whole again, on his own, and be able to go after what he wants.

It was a danger-filled story, probably more so than any other in the series so far. I loved the entire thing. How Ms. Kennedy writes this stuff, I’ll never know. You feel like you are a mercenary with them, and it pulls you into the story. The heart racing, blood pumping, and sweaty palms kind of reading. And the little snippets we get in other POV’s just makes you want to read faster to get to their stories in the series. I am enraptured by this series, and can’t see myself stopping until I gobble them all up.
