On The Hunt by Alexandra Ivy
Mika Tanner has loved Bailey Morrell, a beautiful Healer, since childhood. But his duty as a Sentinel, a supernatural guardian of an ancient race, clashed with her rebellious spirit. Now a dangerous new anarchist group not only threatens life as they know it—but any chance of their being together again…

Scorpius Rising by Rebecca Zanetti
With a deadly disease spreading like wildfire across the country, microbiologist Nora Medina needs to focus all her energy on stopping the pandemic. Playing with dynamite—in the form of her way-too-hot ex—is the last thing she should be doing. But forced to work with Deacan McDougall against unexpected enemies with the seconds ticking by, she knows the explosion is coming…

Phantom Embrace by Dianne Duvall: Immortal Yuri Sokolov was born with the ability to see spirits, yet he’s never seen one as lovely as Cat Seddon, the woman who haunts his home and his dreams. But amid their star-crossed love, a new danger may have Yuri facing a different kind of eternity.

Stake Out by Hannah Jayne: Vampire fashion designer Nina LaShay has a lot on her plate—just two days until fashion week and the model who was flirting with her photographer boyfriend is now a corpse in her studio. But when dead turns into undead and dangerous, Nina must find out who’s responsible…before the beautiful baby vamp takes too many bites out of the Big Apple.

I fully enjoyed this anthology. I’m not usually one to read an anthology, and originally was very interested in only Dianne Duvall’s story, but it opened my eyes to the other stories and each different author. Each story was paranormal in its own way, each with action and romance, and all very well written. I’ll review each story individually below.

On the Hunt – Mika, a skilled Sentinel, is sent to find a missing young Sentinel who fled the area in quite the hurry. Mika certainly didn’t expect this mission to lead him straight to his former high school sweetheart, the free-willed healer, Bailey. They’ve been apart for many years, but their attraction towards one another certainly hasn’t dulled in that time.  With danger lurking, they won’t be able to avoid each other. –This is my first Alexandra Ivy story. I enjoyed the story, but didn’t connect to the characters. Perhaps the world-building was too long-winded and not enough was focused on the build up to the romance between both Mika and Bailey, both past and present, for me to fully hop into this world and them, but it was well-written and made me want to start from the beginning. ♦ 3 Stars

Scorpius Rising – Two people brought back together by a deadly contagious bacteria, Nora and Deacon will not only fight each other but an uphill battle of mass destruction. The sexy Scotsman lost Nora as his wife near a decade ago, but now that they’re back in close quarters, this strong Army man will work his skills to get back into her heart. Considered the top, if not tied for the spot, microbiologist in the country, Nora is fighting against the grain for a cure and vaccine for the new contagion, while trying to decide if her ex-husband is worth a second chance. The Scots’ brogue will be harder to fight than she thought. –Rebecca Zanetti made me an instant fan with this novella. It packed so much punch into this prequel. Not only did she pack science, fear, and knowledge into the story, but also intense attraction and pure hotness into and between these characters, all while maintaining excitement and readability. The set up to the actual series was perfection, and I greatly look forward to reading this series. Loved it. ♦ 5 Stars

Phantom Embrace – Yuri is an Immortal Guardian fighting the constant battle of eliminating the vampire race along with his brethren. On a night like any other, while hunting for vampires, he sees a beautiful woman. The same beautiful woman he sees roaming his house. Cat has been dead for quite some time, but never crossed over. It’s a lonely existence, “living” among the living where no one can see you. She’s fascinated by Yuri and often visits him, watching him fight or studying the items in his room. When Yuri decides to finally let her know that he’s always been able to see her, they embark on a whirlwind romance where two people fall in love the best they can on different planes, without being able to touch. –It was a beautiful story showcasing the beauty of falling in love with someone regardless of what capacity you have of them. Ms. Duvall was able to encapsulate their love story fully while also furthering and explaining the main series and its storyline so that you understood them and the other characters, whether you’ve met them before or not. Truly well-written and action-packed, and written in a way to entice new fans to join the series. ♦ 5 Stars

Stake Out – Fashion Designer Nina is a vampire trying to make it as a head designer. On the cusp of her big show, one of her models, with whom she has aggression towards, is mysteriously turned. Nina and her ragtag posse will have to find out who is trying to sabotage her clothing line, protect others from the vicious newly-turned vamp, and all the while making sure there is an actual show to go on. –I had a bit of a difficult time falling into this story.  The main character lacked anything for me to cling to in wanting to know her or root for her. I haven’t read any of the series prior to this one nor anything by Ms. Jayne, but I’d be curious if the only reason I had trouble on this is because it’s a novella, and too much was either left to the imagination or over-explained. I’d certainly like to start at the beginning of the series, and won’t allow this to color my vision. ♦ 3 Stars
